Imagine Mars Through Native Eyes – IEI has been awarded a grant from NASA to develop a program for Native students around the theme “Imagine Mars Through Native Eyes.” The program will be patterned after the existing program “Imagine Mars,” which supports the NASA MAVEN mission. This program will research traditional Indigenous knowledge of Mars, build content and trainings for after school programs run in selected Native schools and communities, and will provide a live stream broadcast into selected Native schools and communities at the time of the MAVEN Launch and the Orbital Insertion in 2013 and 2014. Our partner in this program is the Center for Science Education at the Space Sciences Lab, University of California, Berkeley. Native communities will include the STAR school near Leupp, AZ, a Navajo bi-lingual school, and a Native Hawaiian school and `Imiloa Astronomy Center in Hilo, Hawaii.
